A Piano Juggler ...

is not someone who tosses pianos up in the air. It is in fact one of the two best halftime shows that you can see at the Bulls game. Now you might ask, "Well, that's nice, John, but aren't the games the important thing." And you would be wrong. Yes, it is important that the Bulls now have the best record in the NBA (11 - 2) and have beaten several good teams handily (Celtics, Magic, Wizards, Clippers). They are playing great team basketball, and other than the fact that Luol Deng plays 62 minutes a game (I think he is dancing with the Luv A Bulls during the time-outs) they are doing a great job of getting their subs involved in this compacted season. We are 2 - 0 in the games we have been to and fully expect to be 11 - 0 at the end of the season. In spite of all that, a great time at the Bulls game is ruined by a mediocre half-time show. It's hard to remember those amazing Derrick Rose lay-ups when all you can think about is the guy who squeezes himself into the tiny box.

Or the lady who shoots the bow and arrow with her feet.

Yeah, it's that bad. So it makes a huge difference when you get a good half-time show. Unfortunately there are only two I have seen that make me want to stay and watch instead of going to get ice cream: The Piano Juggler and the Quick Change Lady. The Quick Change Lady is the most amazing show. She and her partner were on America's Got Talent some time ago. You can see that performance on YouTube here. They are a crowd-pleaser and well worth watching. The Piano Juggler is also great. Dan Menendez is a street performer who has been entertaining people for years.

He has been on both Carson's and Leno's Tonight Shows several times, prompting Johnny Carson to exclaim, "Now that's show biz, folks." A throwback to vaudeville days, his act is a huge hit at the United Center.  There could not be a finer testimonial than that thousands of people delay their potty breaks long enough to watch him perform at half-time.

Last night we got a chance to see the Piano Juggler again at the Bulls game. It was the highlight of the evening. Oh, by the way, the Bulls won, too. Just in case you were wondering.

  1. There were dog races once. I liked those where there's a ball in a stand at one end and they do a relay race. The best part was that the faster team had a Corgi at the end to even it out. Those tiny legs are not keeping up with collies and the like.

  2. Oh man, those dog races were the best. I'm also partial to the quick change artist, but I'd even take the guy with the Village People puppets over the guy in a box.

  3. I forgot about the dog races. Okay, top three now.
